I’m back after a long time folks! I was busy with my visa processing works for UK. Hopefully next month I’ll fly there. Okay, so, the topic I’m gonna spot on today is actually well known to everyone. But this is for those who are buying a laptop or notebook for the first time.

There are some facts that we really should look at before shopping laptops or any kind of computer. Firstly, I’ll ask you how you’d like to shop the laptop, online or from a shop? I prefer online and that’s how I shopped mine too. Because if you buy online you’ll get a lot of options and also you can look for useful offers on different hardware or software and you can get free stuffs too.

Okay, now let’s look at the features we should check for:

How Careful You Can Be!

Warranty & Service Offers:

That’s what most important. There are different kinds of offers from different companies. You should wisely choose the best one that suits you. If you are gonna use your Laptop for surfing the web or gaming you should get a strong service offer because believe me the spywares are looking to do mass destruction on your device!

Processor:

This is the biggest fact. Your Pc’s or Laptop’s working speed depends on it. There are different kinds of processors. But the most popular are right now are the Core i3, Core i5 & Core i7. They are the fastest. If you are looking for speed you should look for them.

Operating System:

Alright this will tell how modern you are! The latest operating system is Windows 7. It’s really cool. I use it. But I still think that XP is faster. It depends on your choice.

Office Software:

Office software is a package for different works including Data entry, Typing, Mailing, Spreadsheet, Presentation etc. I use Microsoft Office 07. The latest one is Microsoft 2010. Both are good. It’s kinda costly but if you wanna use your PC or Laptop for study or office work you needa own it.

Security Software:

Security Softwares like Antivirus, anti spyware, internet security are so much important for your laptop. You should never use it without installing those softwares. There are a various number of brands. You should check the facilities you are getting from different brands and get the right one. You can download some trial versions from web. But they are not that powerful.

A really important thing, if you are buying a costly one then you should use the internet more often to update it else it wont be able to fight against the latest viruses. And here is a great software for you to keep your PC safe.

Memory:

Random Access Memory, RAM in short is another hardware which controls the speed of the computer. Most of the modern days computers have at least 2 GB Ram. But if you are gonna do gaming you should get a 4 GB one.

Primary Storage:

That’s what tells the storage capacity of your Laptop. There are different options starting from 160 GB. That’s what mine is. I think it’s a modest one. The prices can differ for same storage capacity depending on the rpm rate of the hard disk.

Battery Power:

Now that’s what really makes your laptop cool and mine one sucks here! I have only a 1 hr back up one. My friend’s laptop gives 4 hr back up. When we are on a long trip to somewhere I cant use my laptop for long and that’s why I’m thinking of getting a new battery. I will suggest you to get a 6 cell battery which will serve at least 3 hrs or you’ll feel embarrassed like me!

Optical Drive:

That’s the choice for your DVD drive, CD Drives or if you wanna go to old age then Floppy Drive(I don’t think you can get that on Laptop!).

Okay, so these were the common features you should look on. Now let’s look at some extra features and accessories you’d like to get.

Wi Fi Wireless Card:

It’s the age of Wi Fi. So, you should obviously check if your Laptop is Wi Fi enabled.

Bluetooth Wireless:

You should also look if the Bluetooth device is in there. Because data cables are being old aged now!

Accessories:

Accessories like Mice, Speakers, Printers, Scanners, Controllers are important. And off course the carry bag. You can get a cool one. Mine is not! It’s a boring one.

So, that was it. I was lucky my host mom helped me out when I customized mine on net. It’s really easy. You should firstly choose which company’s Laptop you are gonna buy, then go to their website, choose a model and just customize it. It’s pretty simple! Ooops, I forgot to say you’ve got to pay too!
