Hey guys, How are you all doing? All good? Guess what! I’m in UK. Just got here 3 weeks ago and will be here for the next 2 years inshallah. I’m having some really busy times. Hopefully I’ll get settled within next month.
LONDON!
Now, I’m gonna share some facts that I’ve faced after coming here. First up I met my friends at airport who came to receive me. Later on they were talking within themselves who is going to pay for my Oyster Card. Okay, I had no clue what is that. It is a kind of travel card which is cheaper than the actual ticket price. To have this card to make your travel cost cheaper you’ll have to order for a card here.
If you are a student then you’ll have to apply for a student oyster card. You’ve to pay an initial £10 for the card through online. Once you’ve ordered for the card it should be coming to your address within one week. You can start saving on your transport after that. There are different travel pass options which you can use on your card.
Next thing is if you are coming as a student you have to enroll to the school as soon as possible. They will give you the Enrollment letter and College letter. You need the bank letter to open a bank account. Without the account you can’t actually get a next step. There are some banks which doesn’t give checking accounts to students. So, you will have to be aware of it.
Next you will have to apply for the National Insurance(NI) number. This is a very important thing for your jobs. You need to have it as soon as possible. Call 0845 915 7006 for registration. Firstly you’ll get the NI letter where your NI number will be noted. It should be coming within 2 weeks after you get registered and you should receive the NI card within 3 weeks of receiving the NI letter.
Once your bank account is okay, try using it more often. Try building up a good credit history. In my earlier posts I’ve talked about how to create a good credit history. You can get some help from there. Having a good credit history is a great thing. You’ll know why once you get it.
You should also know you aint gonna get a credit card firstly. You’ll get a debit card to start with and literally a credit card will be offered if you can build up a good credit history. Getting a debit card can be tough from some banks as I’ve said. You’ve to do a research on the banks.
These are the initial steps you need to do within 1 week of your being in UK. There are some other things you can do rather than partying up(!) such as getting registered with a library nearer you, start applying for job at many job sites, visiting the historical place etc. I know these did sound boring! But you know guys, if you don’t do something boring you aint gonna get the taste of the interesting things.
