Stepwise reporting your Credit Card missing

Report lost or stolen credit card

Dont freak out!

Now I’m gonna tell you exactly how you should report as soon as you find out that your Credit Card is lost or stolen. Well, you have to report to your Credit Card Issuer firstly. You can do it in two ways, to call them or to report on their website if you have the facility to do so. But my choice would be calling the Credit Card Issuer. Most of the Credit Card issuers have toll-free numbers which serve 24 hours to deal with such emergencies.

Credit Card Issuer Number Lost!

Can’t you find the number of the Credit Card Issuer? Don’t worry. Most Card Issuers print their customer service numbers on the billing statements. Just locate a recent billing statement which is handed to you every month and locate the numbers from that. If you can’t find out any of the statements then simply give a search on internet writing your Credit Card Issuer name. The numbers must be on their website.

I hope you’ve got the Card Issuer’s number by now. Haven’t you? Now you have to be ready for facing some common questions which the Card Issuer will ask you for having information. The most common information the credit card issuer will ask you for are

  • Account Number.
  • The date and approximate time that you noticed the card is missing.
  • The date and amount of your last purchase, if you can remember.

Please do not forget to keep a phone log of the Credit Card representative you spoke with. This is just a future reference in case of any specific proof needed. Don’t worry about it too much.

Ok, now that you are done reporting the Credit Card Issuer, next is you have to contact the three major National Credit-Reporting Agencies to report the theft. They will attach a Fraud Alert to your missing credit card. The name and numbers of the agencies are

And I am recommending to use LifeLock® for better protection of your identity. They will let you know if any fraudulent occur with your identity.

Lastly, call the police in the jurisdiction where your credit card was stolen or lost to report the missing.
