London Dream! This post is for those foreign undergraduate students from low earning families who have been brilliant at their studies and want to come to London and continue their studies and no doubt, with doing part time jobs.
Guys, a good suggestion for you, you have taken the wrong decision. If you are dreaming of doing your studies properly holding the same kind of result you used to have and doing a proper job which will earn you your living, then I am sorry my friend, this dream is not going to be true.
Depression rises among London students!
I am not saying jobs are not available in London. There are jobs but you aint gonna get the proper ones. It’s because of the student visa. Most of the undergraduate students get only 10 hours work permit at their visa. Think for a minute, if you would be a owner of a shop would you hire somebody to work only 10 hours per week? The answer is simply no and that is the reason students are not getting proper jobs. They are trying to do jobs illegally. Would you prefer to go somewhere to do illegal jobs? Well, guys, I hope the answer is NO!
Now, there can be a question if you are already in London and have already started a job which is giving you a good salary with which you can save some amount of money, answer me a question my friend, are you really studying? I am pretty much sure the answer is again no. If somebody is offering a job (illegal one!), why should he care about your studies? Your work schedule can be during your class time. Firstly you think to be silent for a few weeks and then ask for changing schedule. I am afraid that aint gonna happen. Anyway, if you ask your boss to change your schedule because of your studies, there is a 90% chance of getting sacked! Well, why should he care? He wont have any problem to hire a new one! Courses in London colleges are not that easy that you can finish those studying 5 hrs a week or so.
Now comes the fact of financing your hard earn money. How many things you are gonna pay? You just wont have the facility to calculate your spending. The transport rate has gone higher also the rent of houses. We are from low earning family. We can not ask for money from home to run our life in London. That’s just a wrong idea.
Nobody among us is unknown about the fees of either colleges or Universities in London for international students. They are trying to touch the sky over the last couple of years. Who can afford to save an amount of over $7000 with earning only about $300 a week or so? The answer is very few people. Do you know who are they? They are the particular ones who have been in London for last 5 years and still doing 3rd or 4th semester at colleges! I am talking about the good students who dream of a great career ahead of their college life (No offence). If you dream of a good career studying at a London institution living the life their on your own and if you are from a low earning family like me, I am sorry to say these things are not parallel.
London dream, we were talking about that. Obviously you can have a London dream, but my suggestion would be dream it for either doing study or doing job. Dont try to mix those both into one please, it will be a spicy curry in an ice cream!
Well, I am writing after a long long time. And readers, I am really sorry about that. It is my London dream which has kept me away from meeting you this long. But now I am out of that depression as I am out of London! So, you’ll get me here regular again and please pray for me so that I can be in USA soon, my 2nd homeland!

To the writter,
I m very much pleased after reading ur article. As i m still in london, i can realize very much about the situtation of here students. This is true its very hard to continue ur study with continuing ur job here. But can u just guess that, if u can do so just for few years what will u get after from the world? A first class degree and a lot of experiences. When we depend over our parents for our study cost and our all expencess, we never can realize how is life, how should live it, how should struggle to make it better & better. As its very hard to continue both study nd job in london, u can do slowly slowly al of these. We r just student now. We have a lot of time to build our future i think. When a student come in london( any foreign zone), s/he can realize very very good about the real life. They become more nd more experienced when they spend some time here which experiences are impossible to gain living in their home country. LIFE IS NOT A BED OF ROSES. To get something, we have to sacrifice something. Moving to USA in a better zone isnt the solution. Who can fight, he can win. So, i wanna finish with saying that we should try untill become success because NO TRY NO SUCCESS. Thank you.
Thanks for your precious comment bud. When I was writing the post, I was expecting a good debate. You’ve just started it
There are two thing where I’ll appreciate a little focus from you. One, I wrote this post for those who haven’t come yet just planning to come and Two, ALWAYS TAKE YOUR CHANCES. If you are a good student and capable of doing great on your own then why not USA, a far better place from UK. Question can be made about the cost. Well, community colleges in US are not much costly than colleges in UK but in education system a far better choice. Moreover, UK degree is no compare to the same level of a US one. Now let’s talk about professional job opportunities, with the current depression lot of qualified experienced people are loosing their jobs in UK. How come are you assured of getting a proper job getting out with a UK degree at UK? Why would you want to do your first job at home getting a UK degree? If we have opportunities we should try those, shouldn’t we? But obviously for the guys like us who already have come to UK they should try to stick on. Congratulation to you that you have done so. Thank you.
